Skippy, Come Home!

Case No. 6

We met Bill Jarboe at his house. It was a quiet older neighborhood and the house appeared to be in a state of disrepair. He was complaining of constant noises beneath his house. He was convinced the noises were his late beloved pointer "Skippy" trying to return from the grave.

"Skippy would always scratch on the floor just like that", said Mr. Jarboe, as we also heard the sound of scratching on his floorboards. We decided to take on his case and investigate.

After receiving our deposit, I went to work. A thorough search of the grounds revealed definite signs of nocturnal visitations. I set up the cameras and the spectrometer and began my vigil. About four hours later, it was almost midnight, and I heard the scratching sounds. Mr. Jarboe became very excited and making calling and whistling noises, and we had to make him go into another room and wait. After we looked at the pictures, I found our canine spectre to be a rat. Mr. Jarboe did not believe us, so I trapped the rat and showed it to him.
Mr. Jarboe was less than enthused at my discovery. He refused to pay the rest of his bill, and threw me out of his house. I recommended that he get a new dog and transfer his affections to that and "Skippy's ghost" would surely rest.
